Our story
From grid limit to business idea
2020
Surplus becomes an idea
In 2020 Thomas Ebner renovates his parents' house and installs a photovoltaic system. But the grid operator limits how much can be fed in. Part of the electricity is neither fed into the grid nor used on site, and simply goes to waste.
Thomas is into Bitcoin mining and promptly puts a miner in the basement, powered by exactly this surplus. It quickly becomes clear: the electricity that used to go to waste suddenly has a value, and the computing power even earns more than the feed-in tariff. Soon the entire surplus flows into the miner.
What remains is a very warm basement and a question: how can this heat be put to good use? This question gives rise to the idea behind HASHLYNK.
2022–2024
An idea becomes a team
Together with Matthias Wagner, the first test systems are built at hydropower plants and PV systems. In 2022 Max Possegger joins and turns the test setup into a product that can be planned, certified and integrated into existing electrical installations. With funding from FH Kärnten, Thomas and Matthias develop the business idea into a business plan in 2023 and 2024, while Max continues to develop the technology. It soon becomes clear that the systems also need their own software: Bernhard Jung and Moritz Schalk join the team as two software developers.
2024–2026
A team becomes a company
In December 2024 the patent for the system and its operating method is granted, and HASHLYNK GmbH is founded in 2025. In February 2026 the first system goes into operation. Today our systems put surplus electricity to use at very different sites, from residential buildings and commercial businesses to a 1 MW ground-mounted PV plant.
